DR BAWUMIA ATTENDED THE ENSKINMENT OF THE NEWLY YAGBONWURA OF THE GONJA STATE

On March 21, 2023, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, attended the colourful outdooring of the newly enskinned Yagbonwura of the Gonja State, Bii-Kunuto Jawu Soale at the Jakpa Palace in Damango. The event was well-attended by many dignitaries from various parts of Ghana, and it was a momentous occasion that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the people of Gonja.

The Yagbonwura is the traditional ruler of the Gonja State, which is one of the largest traditional areas in Ghana. The Gonja people are known for their rich cultural heritage, and the Yagbonwura plays a significant role in preserving and promoting the Gonja culture. The enthronement of the Yagbonwura is a major event in the Gonja calendar, and it is always marked with great pomp and ceremony



The attendance of the Vice President at the event was a testament to the importance that the government places on the traditional institutions in Ghana. 

The Vice President congratulated the new Yagbonwura and wished him a long and healthy reign. He also pledged the government's support to the Yagbonwura in his quest to settle all territorial and chieftaincy disputes peacefully. This is an important commitment, as territorial and chieftaincy disputes have often resulted in violence and instability in many parts of Ghana

The Vice President's attendance at the event also underscores the importance of peaceful transitions in traditional leadership in Ghana. The smooth and peaceful succession arrangements for the Yagbonwura are highly commendable and worth emulating.
