THIRTEEN SESSIONS IN FIVE DAYS: THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA HAS GRADUATED ABOUT 12,000 STUDENTS FOR THE 2021/2022 ACADEMIC YEAR

The University of Ghana's 2023 March Congregation #UGCongregation was an event that will forever be remembered by the graduands, their families, and the University community. The ceremony, which took place over five days in thirteen sessions, showcasing the diverse range of programs, saw the graduation of about 12,000 students across various disciplines

Notably, this year's congregation saw the introduction of medals for First Class recipients, a welcome addition that may be expanded in the future to recognize the achievements of all graduates. Each day featured a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with the grand graduation on Thursday afternoon featuring many student leaders and the outgone SRC President

The ceremony started each day with a procession of the academic staff, a musical interlude by the Ghana Dance Ensemble, followed by the graduands. The graduands were seated in front of the stage, while the academic staff took their positions on the stage. The University anthem was sung, and the ceremony was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana

The University of Ghana's 2023 March Congregation was a series of ceremonies filled with celebration, pride, and accomplishment. Students from various schools and colleges within the university gathered to receive their degrees and diplomas, marking the end of their academic journey at the university

The ceremonies were well-organized, with each group of graduates having their own designated time and venue for their ceremony. The Great Hall and the Cedi Conference Centre were both used as venues for the various ceremonies, accommodating the large number of students who were graduating, some guests, and the academic staff.


DAY 1: TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2023

The first day of the University of Ghana's 2023 March Congregation saw the graduation of an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Administration from the College of Humanities in the morning session. The students had successfully completed their studies and were awarded their degrees in a ceremony held at the Great Hall




In the afternoon session, the undergraduate Diploma/Bachelor of Arts in Education graduated at the Cedi Conference Centre and the Great Hall. These students had also completed their studies and were awarded their degrees amidst great celebration and pomp

The ceremony was attended by the graduands' families, friends, and loved ones, who had come to support them on their special day. The atmosphere was one of excitement and joy, as the graduands were congratulated on their academic achievements.

Graduating the B.Sc Administration and Diploma/BA Education students marked the beginning of a week-long celebration of academic excellence, perseverance, and dedication. It was a reminder of the University's commitment to producing graduates who are well-equipped to take on the challenges of the 21st century

As the graduands stepped out into the world, armed with their newly acquired degrees, they were reminded of the importance of using their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. DAY 2: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 2023

The second day of the University of Ghana's 2023 March Congregation was marked by the graduation of undergraduate Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Great Hall. These students had completed their studies in the College of Humanities and were awarded their degrees in a colourful and exciting ceremony

The ceremony was attended by the student's families, friends, and loved ones, who had come to celebrate their academic achievements. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as the graduands filed into the Great Hall in their graduation gowns and hats

After the keynote address, graduands were called to the stage to bow and shake hands with the academic staff. There were cheers, applause, and shouts of joy as each graduand gets to the stage, marking the end of their academic journey at the University of Ghana.

The graduation of the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Fine Arts students was a significant milestone for both the graduands and the University of Ghana. It was a reminder of the University's commitment to producing graduates who are well-equipped to take on the challenges of the 21st century. DAY 3: THURSDAY, MARCH 23, 2023

Whereas the undergraduate Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts from the College of Humanities graduated at the Great Hall, the undergraduate/postgraduate Bachelor of Science/B.Pharm/BPH/BDS/MBCHB from the College of Health Sciences, on the other hand, graduated at the Cedi Conference Centre during the morning sessions

The Thursday afternoon session must have been a momentous occasion for many, as it saw the graduation of numerous student leaders of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Room Executives (JCR), and Departmental Executives at the Great Hall. The outgone SRC President, the Famous Master Prince Asumadu, also graduated on that day, which must have been a proud moment for him and his loved ones

It is heartening to hear that there was a significant turnout of family members, friends, and loved ones who came to support the graduands. Despite the heavy downpour that briefly disrupted the proceedings at the forecourt of the Great Hall, it is inspiring to know that the graduands remained resilient and were able to continue their celebrations after the rain passed.

Congratulations to the undergraduate Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts from the College of Humanities who graduated at the Great Hall, as well as the undergraduate/postgraduate B.Sc/B.Pharm/BPH/BDS/MBCHB students from the College of Health Sciences who graduated at the Cedi Conference Centre during the morning session.

As the graduands move forward into the next chapter of their lives, I wish them all the best and encourage them to use their education and skills to make a positive impact on the world around them. Congratulations once again to all the graduands, and to their families and loved ones who supported them on this journey.


DAY 4: FRIDAY, MARCH 24, 2023

This day was a busy day at the university with multiple graduation ceremonies taking place. There was a heavy downpour in the early morning from 6:00 GMT. The rain stopped before the ceremony could start at 9:00 GMT. It appears that despite the heavy downpour in the early morning from 6:00 GMT, the graduands were enthusiastic about attending the ceremony, even if the rain had not stopped before the scheduled start time of 9:00 GMT. However, as mentioned earlier, the rain did stop before the ceremony could begin 

In the morning session, the School of Graduate Studies held their graduation ceremony for postgraduate students who completed their dissertations for their PHD/MPHIL degrees. This ceremony took place at the Great Hall





Meanwhile, undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Schools of Agriculture (SoA), Veterinary Medicine (SVM), and Biological Sciences (SBS) had their graduation ceremony at the Cedi Conference Centre.

In the afternoon session, postgraduate students from the College of Education (COE), College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS), and College of Health Sciences (CHS) who did not complete dissertations had their congregation. This non-dissertation ceremony took place for College of Humanities (COH) students.

Overall, it sounds like a day filled with celebration and accomplishment for many students who have worked hard to achieve their academic goals.


DAY 5: SATURDAY, MARCH 25, 2023

The final day of the congregation saw the postgraduate College of Humanities (COH) Non-Dissertation students have their graduation ceremony in the morning and afternoon, marking the climax of the event. The ceremony was colourful and lively, reflecting the joy and excitement of the graduates and their families


Abeiku Santana, a well-known media personality of Peace FM, whose birth name is Gilbert Aggrey, has earned his second master's degree in Marketing Strategy from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS). Having already established himself with his extensive knowledge and experience in media, public relations, and marketing, Abeiku Santana made the decision to pursue advanced studies in this field at UGBS. Along with his latest achievement, Abeiku Santana also holds a Master's degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from the University of Cape Coast, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from GIMPA

Overall, the University of Ghana's 2023 March Congregation was a resounding success, showcasing the academic excellence of the institution and the hard work of the graduating students. It was a memorable event for all involved, and one that will be remembered for years to come because of its significance as it coincided with the University's 75th anniversary.
