PROF NANA ABA APPIAH AMFO ATTENDED THE GOLDEN JUBILEE CEELEBRATIONS OF GOLDFIELDS SCHOOL COMPLEX IN TARKWA

Story by: Samuel K. Owusu

On April 1, 2023, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Goldfields School Complex as the guest speaker. The event was held in Tarkwa, and although the journey was tiring due to the bad state of the Takoradi to Tarkwa road, it was a journey worth taking.

For Prof Nana Aba, the event brought back memories of her final three years of primary school, her late father who headed the school for close to a decade, and the serene and safe neighborhood she enjoyed growing up

Upon arrival, it was heartwarming for Prof Nana Aba to see many old pupils and students, as well as some of her former teachers. As the guest speaker, she had the opportunity to inspire the current students to work hard and dream big, just like the accomplished professionals of today.

During the event, Prof Nana Aba had the pleasure of commissioning a GHC 200,000 STEM Centre, which was sponsored by the Goldfields Old Students Association (GOSAT). She expressed her gratitude to Ben Boateng for the great coordinating work and Frank Thomas, President of GOSAT, for his leadership. She also met some amazing people, including Dr. Celestina Allotey, VP & Head, Sustainable Development, West Africa - Goldfields, who was the Chairperson for the event. Apparently, this was the second time that they had both shared a public platform.

The Gyasehene of the Apinto Divisional Stool, Nana Dr. Kwabena Adarkwa Bediako III, was present, giving his support to the event. Politicians also showed up and made promises, which were recorded. Prof Nana Aba was delighted to be in the company of all these wonderful people.

However, her hope was that the pupils and students were inspired unto greatness. She encouraged them to dream big, work hard, and, with some good fortune, realize those dreams. She reminded them that the accomplished professionals of today were once ordinary pupils who dared to dream, work hard, and persevere through challenges.

The Goldfields School Complex was established 50 years ago and has since been raising professionals for Ghana and beyond. Prof Nana Aba expressed her congratulations to the school complex for its 50 years of impactful training and raising professional giants. She also wished the school another half-century of continued success in its mission

Lastly, Prof Nana Aba and her siblings did not forget to visit the house on the hill, around the curve, which was their home for a decade and a half. This was a special moment for her and her family, as it allowed them to reminisce about their childhood and the impact that the Goldfields School Complex had on their lives

In conclusion, Prof Nana Aba's attendance at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Goldfields School Complex was not just a journey to an event; it was a journey through her past, a trip down memory lane. It was an opportunity to see how far she had come, how much she had achieved, and how much she had grown.

Moreover, it was a moment to inspire others to dream big, work hard, and persevere through challenges. It was a celebration of a school that had been raising professionals for Ghana and beyond for 50 years, and it was a moment to look forward to another half-century of impactful training and raising professional giants.
