The Electoral Commission of Ghana is set to conduct a By-Election in Kumawu Constituency in May 2023. The by-election is necessary due to the unfortunate demise of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Philip Bassoah.

The Electoral Commission has announced that nomination forms will be received from May 2, 2023, to May 5, 2023, at the Sekyere Kumawu District Office of the Commission. The by-election will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, between the hours of 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. Candidates will be required to pay GH₵10,000 as a nomination fee. It is essential that candidates who wish to contest the by-election meet all the necessary requirements and adhere to the rules and regulations set by the Electoral Commission. Candidates must be Ghanaian citizens, be at least 21 years of age, and be resident in the constituency for at least 12 months preceding the election. They must also not have been convicted of any criminal offense involving dishonesty or moral turpitude.

It is also important that the Electoral Commission ensures that adequate security measures are put in place to prevent any incidents of violence or intimidation during the election. The Commission should work closely with the security agencies to ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful and safe environment.

The people of Kumawu must also play their part in ensuring a successful by-election. They must come out in their numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice and reject any attempts at vote-buying or other forms of electoral malpractice.
