His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his esteemed wife, Lady Julia, returned to Ghana on May 13, 2023, after attending the Coronation of his dear friend, King Charles, in London. The royal couple's arrival at the Kumasi International Airport was a momentous occasion, marked by a warm and grand reception. As they stepped off the Vista jet flight around 5:00 p.m., they were greeted with joyous cheers, and bouquets of roses were presented to them as a symbol of admiration and respect.
Thousands of people, including enthusiastic school children, and market women lined the principal streets of Kumasi, holding and waving the Ashanti flag adorned with its signature yellow, black, and green colours. This powerful display of unity and loyalty demonstrated the unwavering support and admiration the people had for their beloved king
The return of His Royal Majesty and Lady Julia to the Ashanti land after their journey to the United Kingdom was met with an outpouring of happiness and relief. The fact that the people eagerly awaited their king's safe return was a testament to the immense respect, admiration, and affection they hold for him. The Asantehene's role as a unifying figure and a symbol of Ashanti culture was reaffirmed by the warm reception he received, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared pride among the people
Once the royal couple reached the Manhyia Palace, the centre of Asante culture and governance, a special ceremony took place to celebrate the Asantehene's 73rd birthday. In the company of his esteemed chiefs and royal members, the Asantehene and Lady Julia participated in the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake. This event served as a joyous occasion to honour the king's life and reign, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the Ashanti people and Ghana as a whole.
The success of the reception and the warm welcome extended to the Asantehene and Lady Julia can be attributed to the efforts of the Ashanti Traditional Council and the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council. Their meticulous planning and coordination ensured that the homecoming of the king was organized with utmost care and respect. The well-orchestrated event showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti people and their deep-rooted appreciation for their traditional leadership
The enthusiastic reception at the Kumasi International Airport, the vibrant display of support from the people lining the streets, and the ceremonial birthday celebration at the Manhyia Palace all exemplified the deep admiration and respect the Ashanti people hold for their king. This grand homecoming further solidified the unbreakable bond between the Asantehene and his subjects, and it served as a reassurance of their confidence in his ability to lead them to greater heights
