This symbolic event, blending religious solemnity and grand pageantry, marked the beginning of a new era in the British monarchy, as the Prince of Wales, the king ascended the throne as the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned at this historic venue since the year 1066. He takes over after the long and beloved reign of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II
The next in line, Prince William, accompanied by his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, and their children, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, made their way to the Westminster Abbey
