Upholding Integrity: Dr Kwabena Duffuor Withdraws From NDC Flagbearership Race, Prioritizing Fairness And Transparency

Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a prominent figure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made a significant announcement today, Friday, May 12, 2023. Through a press conference held in Accra, he informed the general public of his decision to withdraw from the NDC flagbearership race. 

This development took place following a meeting chaired by the former speaker of parliament, Rt Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, where all stakeholders agreed on the resolution of irregularities in the voter register before the Presidential primaries

During the press conference, Dr Duffuor revealed that a meeting had taken place earlier today, bringing together key individuals within the party. The attendees agreed that the Party Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, would promptly establish a technical team comprising representatives from the three presidential aspirants and the party's election committee. 

The primary objective of this team would be to address the irregularities within the voter register and determine the necessary actions to resolve them in preparation for the upcoming Presidential primaries slated for tomorrow, May 13th. A comprehensive report from the technical committee would then be submitted to all concerned parties

 “However, despite the assurances given to myself and my team by the Chairman of the party, the executives of the party, in a complete and unacceptable breach of faith, went ahead to convene a press conference announcing that the elections would go ahead tomorrow, without having resolved the concerns surrounding the voters register as decided at the meeting of the Council of Elders”. Dr Duffuor has said

Dr Duffuor added, "My concerns that the party is not ready to conduct a free and fair election is evident for all to see. How do you win a national election if you can only win an internal election through database distortion and mafia tactics? Taking part in such would be akin to knowingly drinking from a poisoned calabash. After consulting with my support base nationwide, I have been left with no choice but to withdraw from the Presidential election as I cannot contest in an election which is blatantly fraught with irregularities regardless of all my efforts to draw attention to same," 

In line with these developments, Dr Duffuor had previously withdrawn his application injunction on the NDC Primaries. He had expressed concerns about the accuracy of the voter register, deeming it necessary to resolve any irregularities before proceeding with the electoral process. By withdrawing from the Presidential race, Dr Duffuor demonstrated his commitment to the integrity of the electoral process and the principles of fairness and transparency.

It is important to commend Dr Kwabena Duffuor for his decision to withdraw from the NDC flagbearership race. His actions exemplify a statesmanlike approach, prioritizing the resolution of issues within the party and the fairness of the electoral process.
