RAMZY AHMED FUSEINI ELECTED SPEAKER OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UGSRC
~ Samuel K. Owusu
Undoubtedly, the General Assembly of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council (GA, UGSRC) is a miniature of the Parliament of Ghana. Whatever these young student leaders do during their sittings reflects the proceedings of the Ghanas' Parliament. Though they have their own Constitution, the content of the constitution is rightly in line with the Constitution of Ghana
On the 5th day of February 2023, the General Assembly of the University of Ghana Students' Representative Council (UGSRC), had its first sitting for the 2022/2023 Academic Year. For the avoidance of doubt, the General Assembly is the legislative body of the University of Ghana undergraduates student front
RT. HON. RAMZY AHMED FUSEINI (SPEAKER, GENERAL ASSEMBLY - UGSRC)
The meeting was held at the famous Mensah Sarbah Dining Hall and it was the second of its kind after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Stephen Awuah-Pobi won the 2022 Speaker election in a sole contest after two years of silence of the General Assembly by the Ntow-Fianko led administration. The functionality of the General Assembly, etc were curtailed during his era as the Acting UGSRC President. Decisions were solely taken by himself and the UGSRC suffered greatlyThis year's election saw four people contesting for the enviable position. They were in the persons of, Mr Sidney Frimpong Debrah, Mr Edward Owusu Boateng, Ms Adriana Afriyie Bawuah, and Mr Ramzy Ahmed Fuseini. The General Assembly Election is key and crucial to the 2024 General Election for both New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Whoever wins the General Assembly Speaker, will serve as an advantage over the other in the general election and most especially, the Parliamentary Seat of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency

At the end of polls Mr. Ranzy Ahmed Fuseini was declared winner by the Electoral commissioner in the 2023 UGSRC General Assembly Election with 68 votes of the valid votes cast as against Edward Owusu Boateng 32 votes, Sidney Frimpong Debrah 5 votes, and Adriana Afriyie Bawuah 32 votes. Mr Ramzy was the Vice Presidential Candidate to Mr Samuel Ackom during the 2022 UGSRC Election. It is believed that Mr Ramzy is a member of the Tertiary Institutions Network (TEIN), a youth wing which is affiliated to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
170 electorates were expected to vote in last night's General Assembly Speaker Election. 137 voted whiles 33 abstained from voting.

On the other hand, Mr Elisha Owusu Akyaw, the president of the University of Ghana Debate Society, won the deputy Speaker race in a sole contest
Before the start of the election, the SRC General Secretary, Ms Emmanuella Boakye-Yiadom presented a strange register to be used for the voting. Whereas names of eligible voters were deleted from the register, new and unfamiliar names, level 100s were included in the list. For example, the name of Ms Pearl Kai Torgbor of the Sarbh Hall was nowhere to be found disenfranchising her from voting

The names presented by the incompetent General Secretary as representatives of the Mensah Sarbah Hall were level 100s which was not in the right direction. Again, the representatives of the Education Department, School of Performing Arts, Department of Communication Studies, etc were excluded from the list.
This was a deliberate attempt by the General Secretary to use Machiavellian tactics (cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous) act to rig the election because of her parochial interest and the will of her political fathers
This brought a heated argument for about two hours. Mr Nii Tackie Essel Joshua, otherwise known as, Kroos Montana, a representative of the Graduate Students Association, UG, stood on his feet countless arguing and debating the General Secretary for such a well-planned and calculated agenda
SKO BUREAU Team also found out that a non student by name Ruth, a close friend to the General Secretary was the one checking attendance of the General Assembly Members before one could enter the auditorium
I will like to thank the University Management, the SRC, student leaders, the media, the security and all stakeholders who ensured that the election of the 2023 General Assembly Speaker became a reality
