The advent of COVID-19 and the impact it has brought on humanity and the educational system globally is unprecedented. One of the effects is online teaching and learning in higher education. Virtual learning has become increasingly common and there is no doubt online education is here to stay. To be able to achieve this, one must have a stable and strong telecommunication network to be able to compete with the rest of the world
Telecommunications makes it feasible to connect students and teachers in national and international exchanges. These links enable students from varied backgrounds to construct cultural bridges by investigating common issues from different perspectives.

Mr Samuel Ackom, a Presidential candidate for the 2022 SRC General Elections and one other concerned student of the University of Ghana have come to the realisation of the recent poor telecommunication networks on campus. The petitioners have expressed much dissatisfaction and disappointment of frequent interruptions of internet connectivity on campus, poor calls signals making it difficult for students to access online resources, complete assignments, and participate in online lectures. They further stated that the unstable network has affected the mental well-being of the students. Hence, students are not motivated to continue their studies
Poor telecommunication networks can have several negative effects on individuals and society as a whole. Some of these effects are, decreased productivity, reduced competitiveness, disconnected from the rest of the world, and inadequate access to information and education,
Overall, poor telecommunication networks can have significant consequences for individuals, communities, and society as a whole, and efforts need to be made to improve the quality of communication infrastructure on University of Ghana campuses. By so doing this, the University will be able to compete with the rest of the Universities around the world
