The MC for the occasion, Mrs Pascaline Kuunzungla Songsore (Senior Assistant Registrar, Documentation and Information Unit, Public Affairs Directorate) started the program at 1:34 pm where she welcomed the guests, scholarship beneficiaries, and the media to the Great Hall

The PRO Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics and Students Affairs delivered the welcome address. This was followed by a documentary of students who have benefited from scholarships from the university

In the recognizing and appreciating the generous donors by the university, it was Mrs Emelia Agyei-Mensah, the Registrar who mounted the podium to administer that exercise.

The donors include, Fosuaba Education Scholarship for Females, Latex Foam Rubber Products Ltd, Legon Interdenominational Church, Christ Anglican Church-Legon, Mrs Cynthia Adu, UG Chaplaincy Board, Larry Addo, Jennifer Opoku-Asare Service Above Self Memorial (JOSAM) Scholarships, the University of Ghana Alumni Association - North America (UGAANA), UG Scholarship, and the SRC YI BI BOA Scholarship. The above donors have supported Needy but brilliant students over the years.

In the 2022/2023 Academic Year, The UG Sponsorship (Scholarship) gave scholarships to 149 students. 71 of them were New applicants whiles 78 were Renewals. 71 out of the 149 applicants were Newly Admitted Students or Freshers

In the same 2022/2023 Academic Year under my tenure as the UGSRC Scholarship Committee Head, the SRC Yi Bi Boa Scholarship gave scholarships to 253 students. This number is unprecedented and it has never happened before since the inception of the scheme. Whereas 163 were New Applicants, 83 were Renewals. A total amount of GH¢ 384, 048 was paid into the UG Students Accounts

The Head of the Students Financial Aid Office, Ms Selina Torrison Saaka, and other dignitaries presented certificates or letters to the beneficiaries

The Director of Finance presented a letter to Mr Akiola Aziz, one of the beneficiaries whiles the Head of the Students Financial Aid Office looks into it.

In delivering the vote of thanks, Ms Emmanuella Boakye-Yiadom highly acknowledged and appreciated the benevolent donors. She also used the occasion to admonish the beneficiaries

All level 100 students should note that the UG Sponsorship Portal has been opened and as such the SFAO is accepting applications from level 100 regular Main Campus and City Campus students for the 2022-2023 Academic Year. Freshers are encouraged to use this opportunity to apply

To conclude, Education is perceived as one of the effective means through which the development of a country is centred on. However, the cost of education in some parts of the world and Ghana in particular is becoming unbearable. Therefore, for purposes of equity and justice, the university of Ghana has adopted policies and scholarship opportunities such as UG Sponsorship, SRC Yi Bi Boa Scholarship, and other equally and important scholarships for brilliant but needy students

Students who are beneficiaries of the above scholarship funds are advised to take their education seriously to make judicious use of this opportunity. More so, beneficiaries are encouraged to eventually give back to others, both as a profession and possibly  scholarships to future students
