SURAIYA BAANTIMA'S VALENTINE'S DAY WITH THE STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14th. It originated as a Christian feast day honouring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world. It is that time of the year when love is the most popular emotion across the world. It is a day of love, and that love can be for anyone. Thus, all kinds of love should be celebrated; whether it is for your parents, your siblings, your children, your friends, or strangers

In the Bible, Valentine reminds us of the gift of God to mankind through the offering of His only begotten Son to be crucified for the sins of the world, and the true love of God in our hearts. That we have to also love the way God loves. God loves unconditionally and sacrificially, as He loves till the very end. His kind of love is without any strings attached to it.

Love is widely mentioned in the Quran in many ways, such as the Divine qualities of Allah s.w.t. in multiple verses: Al-Ra-uuf (The kind), Al-Wali (The Protecting Friend), Al-Lateef (The Gentle), Al-Ghafur (The Forgiving), Ar-Rahim (The Merciful), Al-Wadud (The Affectionate Loving), just to name a few.

Here, love is not merely described as an action but also as one of the Divine Names of Allah s.w.t - Al-Wadud. Other Divine Names mentioned also imply the meaning of love. This tells us that love plays a very significant part, not just in the lives of human beings, but also in the whole of creation. Allah s.w.t. says in the Quran:

وَرَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ

and My Mercy encompasses everything (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:156)

one of the ways to attain the ultimate love is to love one another. In a Hadith, The Messenger of Allah s.a.w. said, "You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I inform you of something which, if you do, you will love one another? give greetings (peace) amongst yourselves." (Sahih Muslim)

Allah s.w.t. also mentions His Love for those who do good:

 وَأَنفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ ۛ وَأَحْسِنُوا ۛ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Spend the cause of Allah and do not contribute to your destruction with your own hands, but do good, for Allah loves those who do good (virtuous) (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:195)

Taken an inspiration from the Bible and the Quraan, Miss Suraiya Baantima, the Women's Commissioner of the University of Ghana Tertiary Students' Confederacy of the NPP, has today expressed love, care, affection, and a sense of compassion to the Students With Special Needs of the University of Ghana

She did this by presenting all kinds of gifts to these students on this special day.  She interacts with them face-to-face while the students tell her their plights at the University

Miss Suraiya was accompanied by Kingsley Asare, Patricia Addai, Ibrahim Osei Tutu, a.k.a, Koo, Patience Nutsugah (UG Tescon Assistant Secretary), A.B. Prince, Thelma, and Hajara Yusif (UG Tescon Nasara Coordinator)

This solid team visited Students with Special Needs who reside in Legon Hall, Sarbah Hall, and Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall

Mr Benjamin Melish Agyapong and Mr Sylvester Acquah, the President and Vice respectively of the Campus Association of Students with Special Needs, expressed their profound gratitude and appreciation for the kind gestures of Miss Suraiya.

Speaking to one of the Special Need Student in Kwapong Hall, Miss Suraiya compassionately said, ''....You make the world the best place to live in. So i actually thought of you. I mean, I have shared gifts to a lot of people but you are more special, and i cannot complete my today without you. that is why i came here to be with you so that it can help me make my day complete. And i will be your valentines' gift. i will be honoured''

Love is a gift from The Creator for His creation. It is put into the hearts of humankind and brings joy to the soul. Love is the reason life continues to blossom. It is, for the human experience; a feeling of deep affection that may inspire commitment and sacrifice. The principle of give and it shall be given unto you in Luke 6:38 applies to all hummans. If you give, God will give back to you in abundance. Brother Dan Owusu Asiamah, a Preacher and a travelling Evangelist of the Lords Church, the Church of Christ once said, ''I give because i have, and i have because i give''. Givers never luck
