Shadrack Kofi Ofori Elected As The New BHJCR President For The 2023/2024 Academic Year

Owusu Mr Shadrack Kofi Ofori has been elected as the new President of the Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR) of the University of Ghana Business School for the 2023/2024 academic year. The election was held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, using the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS) for an online election process. The election process was conducted transparently and fairly, and students could vote from the comfort of their homes using their personal devices. This online election process was a result of the recent student riots and the Covid-19 pandemic, which necessitated the need for social distancing and limiting large gatherings. Mr Shadrack Kofi Ofori, a level 300-year student at the University of Ghana Business School, won the presidential election with a total of 1,772 votes which is equivalent to 80.7% of the total vote cast. Owusu The Business House Junior Common Room (BHJCR) of the University of Ghana Business School is holding an election today, Thursday, April 27, 2023, to elect new leaders who will be responsible for managing the affairs of the Business School for the 2023/2024 academic year The election is important because it provides an opportunity for students to exercise their democratic rights and have a say in the governance of their schools. In a letter dated April 4, 2023, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission BHJCR, Mr Johnson Ahafia, communicated the mode of voting, election dates, and the candidates to the University community. Story by: Samuel K.Owusu H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, nominated Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo (JSC) as the new 15th Chief Justice  of Ghana. Her nomination came after the retirement of the 14th Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah (JSC), who had served in that capacity since December 2020.  According to Article 144 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for appointing a Chief Justice, the President is obliged to consult with the Council of State before seeking the approval of Parliament. The experienced and affable Justice of the apex court of the land, Justice Anim Yeboah (JSC) was sworn into office on the 7th of January, 2020. He succeeded Her Ladyship, Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo, whose tenure ended on December 20, 2019, after serving as Chief Justice for two and a half years.
