Story by: Samuel K. Owusu

In a recent turn of events, Dr Kwabena Duffuor has chosen to withdraw his application for an injunction on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Primaries, slated to elect parliamentary candidates and the flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general election in Ghana.

This decision was communicated to the Accra High Court by Dr Duffuor's legal team, leading to the striking out of the case. Consequently, the NDC can proceed as planned with their primaries, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, May 13, 2023

This is a positive development that signals a commitment to the democratic process in Ghana. The swift resolution of this matter by the NDC leadership is commendable, as it ensures that the party can proceed with its planned primaries without any further legal impediments.

We take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude and admiration for Dr Kwabena Duffuor's decision to withdraw the case. His willingness to prioritize the interests of the NDC and its members is commendable, as it demonstrates a commitment to fostering unity and progress within the party. By stepping back and allowing the electoral process to proceed unhindered, Dr Duffuor has exhibited a sense of statesmanship and a recognition of the broader goals and aspirations of the NDC as a political entity.

This development serves as a shining example of effective leadership within the NDC. The ability to swiftly and amicably resolve internal disputes is vital for any political party, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious environment where members can focus on their collective vision and objectives. The leadership of the NDC has played a crucial role in bringing about this settlement, fostering an atmosphere of open dialogue, understanding, and consensus-building. It is also essential to recognize Dr Duffuor's role in bringing this matter to a peaceful settlement. His decision to withdraw the case is a demonstration of his willingness to put the interest of the party and the country first. It also reflects his belief in the democratic process and his respect for the rule of law.

The NDC primaries are an important step towards the selection of the party's parliamentary candidates and the flagbearer for the 2024 general election. The party's ability to conduct these primaries in a transparent and fair manner is crucial to its chances of success in the election. It is therefore heartening to see that the party can now proceed with this important process.

The withdrawal of the case enables the NDC to continue its democratic processes without disruption. By allowing the primaries to proceed as scheduled, the party can move forward in selecting candidates who embody the ideals and principles of the NDC, ready to serve the Ghanaian people with dedication, integrity, and a commitment to progress. This decision also allows party members to actively participate in shaping the future of the NDC, exercising their democratic rights and lending their voices to the political discourse.

We must acknowledge the significance of this event within the context of Ghana's democratic landscape. The ability to resolve internal disputes through peaceful means and legal channels demonstrates the maturity and strength of our political institutions. It reaffirms our collective belief in the power of dialogue, compromise, and the rule of law as the foundation for a thriving democracy.

As we celebrate this positive outcome, it is important to reflect on the larger goals of the NDC and the aspirations of the Ghanaian people. Our nation faces numerous challenges that require the concerted efforts of all political parties and leaders. By uniting behind a shared vision and working collaboratively, we can strive to create a Ghana that is prosperous, equitable, and inclusive.

In conclusion, we extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr Kwabena Duffuor for his decision to withdraw the case, allowing the NDC primaries to proceed as planned.  This decision is a testament to his commitment to democracy and his belief in the democratic process. We also acknowledge the leadership of the NDC for their role in facilitating this settlement. May this event serve as a testament to the strength of our democratic institutions and the commitment of the NDC to democratic principles, paving the way for a successful and impactful electoral process.   Together, let us work towards a brighter future for Ghana. We urge all stakeholders to continue to work towards ensuring that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and transparent and that the will of the people is respected
