 THE ELECTED SRC EXECUTIVES AND THEIR POLITICAL GOD-FATHERS FIGHTS OVER APPOINTMENTS

The English Philosopher, Thomas Hobbes declared that in the absence of rules governing behaviour, that is, in the absence of social control,  " men would live in a state of nature, governed by his reason in the service of his passions".  These passions according to Hobbes, are the desire for: Gain (wealth or material possessions); Safety (personal security and the security of possessions); Reputation (social honour and prestige), and Glory (fame and plaudits of society)

To achieve this  "man would strive not only for power but for more power to secure the power he already has".  For all men to secure this kind of absolute power, Hobbes postulated that society would be  "a war of all against all, in which the life of man would be solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short". This is the kind of society in which according to Darwin, only the fittest would survive.

Who becomes a Committee Head in the Boakye-Lincoln SRC Led Administration has become the survival of the fittest. Survival of the fittest means that organisms that are better adapted to their environment are best suited to survive and succesfully reproduce. The question for the gods is that, have you adapted yourself to the environment of Boakye, Emmanuella or the Political God-Fathers (will talk more about these people later) ? If your answer is yes, then you are good to go. If not, why not ?

It is alleged that, there is power struggles between the Elected SRC Executives over positions of Committee Heads. Then again, there is a group of people called the king makers, those whom it is believed to have nurtured and funded the campaign of the executives. They are sometimes known as the Political God-Fathers. This individuals are also fighting for appointments to the extent of wanting the juicy ones. 

These executives together with their political God-Fathers are in constant conflict with themselves.These people think that they brought the executives into power and as such must have a big say in the appointment. Everyone is pulling strings. This is what has caused the delay of the appointments impeding the progress of the SRC

Some positions like the External Affairs, Academic Affairs, Projects and Programs, and the Womens' Commission are the main bone of contention. Infact, who becomes the SRC Womens' Commissioner has become a big headache for H.E Boakye Gyasi Martin and his executives. 

For the SRC Womens Commissioner, the potential candidates for the office are Joycelyn Ama Bremah, Dorothy Addison, and Suraya Baantima. I will not be surprised if Suraya is appointed the SRC Womens Commissioner because she is the current UG Tescon WOCOM

It is been rumoured that, the SRC General Secretary, Emmanuella Boakye-Yiadom,  is eyeing the External Affairs Committee whiles the President go for the Projects and Programs, etc

The SRC cannot be put for ransom because of the parochial interest of a few. The ransomers must allow Boakye and Lincoln to work for I believe that they can deliver efficiently.

The end result and the adverse effect is that the student populace will suffer the consequences. One of the consequences is that, academic registration ended on the 10th day of February, 2023. The unconfirm report received by SKO BUREAU Team is that, for the first time in five years, more students have deferred their courses this year like never before. This is unprecedented and cannot be overlooked

During the Asumadu-Ndukwe Led Administration, the Academic Affairs Committee Head, Mr Graham Oduro Derry pleaded with the Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate for an extension for about six (6) times and it was granted. The problem now under Boakye-Lincoln Led Administration, they have failed to appoint the Committee Head for the Academic Affairs. Thus, no one is stepping in to advocate and intercede on behalf of the students for an extension of Academic Registration

Student leaders should know that, as long as one keeps fighting for positions, they turn to leave the work of the SRC undone and this can lead the SRC to crash. I therefore call on the University Management, The Dean of Students Affairs, The General Assembly, JCR Presidents, Departmental Executives and all stakeholders to come together to rescue the SRC
