To be able to manage people at any level of human setting is not attained on a silver platter. Due to the diversified nature of people, it takes leaders with unique expertise and qualities to lead them. A leader is basically an individual who is able to influence the actions and behaviours of others towards the attainment of a set goal

Article 22 (1 a and b) of the University of Ghana SRC Constitution stipulates that, the executive officers (SRC President) shall, in consultation with other members of the Executive Committee and with the approval of the General Assembly appoint; The Legal Advisor, and Chairpersons of the following Committees; The External Affairs Committee, The Publications and Information Committee, The Welfare Committee, The Intelligence and Student Affairs Committee, The Disciplinary Committee, The Academic Affairs Committee, The Non-Resident Students Affairs Committee, The Women's Commission, The Finance Committee, The Judicial Board, The Projects and Programmes Committee, The Arbitration Committee, The Scholarship Committee, and any other committee as may be established by a resolution of the General Assembly

For the General Assembly to function well, the appointment of Committee Heads are key and must be available on time. Frankly speaking, appointment of committee heads should have been done before the first sitting of the first session of the General Assembly which was held on the 5th day of February, 2023

Again, the President should have used the 5th February siting to address the General Assembly on the State of  Affairs of the SRC which is recorded in Article 18 (2) of the SRC Constitution. But to the surprise of many students, nothing of such happened making it unusual and strange since the inception of the Council

SKO BUREAU Team can confirm that the SRC President, H.E Boakye Gyasi Martin, has appointed only a few Committee Heads (Three Committees out of the possible fourteen or more ) Here, we see that, majority of the appointment is yet to be materialized. As a result, the function of the General Assembly, which is the legislative body of the student front has been curtailed bringing disequilibrium to the council

It must be noted that, Academic Affairs Committee is part of the yet-to-be-appointed Committees. This Committee is crucial and important to the welfare of the student populace. Without the Head of this committee, students would be left stranded since there will be no one to advocate and intercede on their behalf for the extension of academic registration, etc when the need arises.

For the avoidance of doubt, the deadline for Academic Registration is due on Friday, 10th February, 2023. Barely two days from now and some students are yet to academically register their courses online due to the unavailability to raise funds to pay their academic fees

Due to the negligence of duty and failure of the SRC President to fulfil his Constitutional mandate, the recently elected General Assembly Speaker, the energetic and ever-ready, Rt. Hon. Ramzy Ahmed Fuseini in a missive dated February 8th, 2023, has issued a stern warning to the Executive Officers that, they should do the needful for operationalization of the General Assembly

The Speaker has also reminded the President that, the General Assembly has the absolute power to appoint people to serve on certain committees and boards such as the Audit Board, etc which are guaranteed by the Constitution of the SRC. The urgency and tenacity of the Speaker are clear indications that he is in a hurry to do the work.

I wish to conclude by saying that, leaders are needed at all time to ensure peace and tranquility among his followers and society as a whole in accordance with the law
